What's motivation?
Motivation is a word derived from the word ’motive’ which means needs, desires, wants or drives within the individuals. It is the process of stimulating people to actions to accomplish the goals. Some element that serve as a motivation to people include the following
desire for money
success
recognition
job-satisfaction
team work, etc
Motivation can also be those elements (some listed above) that encourage as an individual to do more in a particular aspect in order to realize a purpose.
Motivation explains why people or animals initiate, continue or terminate a certain behavior at a particular time. Motivational states are commonly understood as forces acting within the agent that create a disposition to engage in goal-directed behavior. Motivation in humans varies as we have different elements that motivate them.
We have a man named "Abraham Maslow" who shared his thoughts with us on the "Human needs" and how it's rank or listed. This list is called "Abraham Maslow needs hierarchy" or "hierarchy of needs". Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a theory of motivation which states that five categories of human needs dictate an individual's behavior. Those needs are physiological needs, safety needs, love and belonging needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs.
What Are the 5 Levels of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs?
Maslow's theory presents his hierarchy of needs in a pyramid shape, with basic needs at the bottom of the pyramid and more high-level, intangible needs at the top. A person can only move on to the higher-level needs when their basic needs are adequately fulfilled, if your basic needs are fulfilled that need is no more a Motivation to you.
The physiological needs which are the first needs on the list are individual basic needs in life. These include clothing, shelter and food. These are the basics for survival.
The safety needs is the next and this is a need for protection of life and property. This list only comes in place after the first list is being fulfilled.
Social needs, this need comes into play when an individual wants to love and be loved, and wants to belong to a particular section in the society. Among these needs are friendship and family bonds.
Esteem needs are the next and their needs are ego driven. It's when you realize your self_worth and reserve some respect.
The last is the self actualization needs which describe the fulfillment of your potential as an individual.
